Typically once an petition is taken to a Judge they will have it signed in about 4 weeks. Once it is signed then the divorce is finalized. You can change your mind anytime you want i suppose – but keep in mind that there is a recording fee involved and it usually runs about $200.00 so you may not want to go back and forth on the matter.
An uncontested (agreed upon) divorce does not require a lawyer, you can do it yourself. You would prepare papers (or have them prepared), file them at your court house and serve a copy to your spouse. You then will wait the required waiting period (if any) as ordered by your state, and you’ll receive a final divorce decree by mail when the divorce is finalized.
You can stop the divorce all the way up until the second its recorded/finalized by the court.
